Emergency services program expands to Plymouth Child and Family Services has recently been awarded the contract to continue to operate the Emergency Services Program (ES) in the Greater New Bedford area. As part of the effort to streamline services across the state, Mass Behavioral Health has made some changes to service areas inclusive of New Bedford's. The New Bedford and Plymouth areas are now service area operated by Child & Family Services. The additional services would likely include an outpatient clinic and possibly sub acute services for children in need of a structured environment. Further expansion of services other than the ES in the Plymouth area will help the community as a whole. The standards of this new contract are quite different from what has been provided by all Emergency Services programs to date. A primary focus of this new model will be to find ways to provide services to individuals in the community as opposed to emergency departments. The new model that all emergency services will be operating under will include assisting individuals in recognizing their family and personal strengths in an effort to maintain individuals in a community setting. Empowering people to utilize their available strengths, supports and coping strategies can create an upward spiral for them.
